Belarusian politician, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor and scientist in the field of electronic engineering.
He began his career as a Designer at the State Special Design Technological Bureau and the Institute of Physics and Mathematics of the Academy of Sciences of the BSSR. From 1977 onwards worked as Lead Engineer at the Minsk branch of the Moscow Design and Technology Bureau, and then as Lead Creator at the “Impulse” Bureau as part of the Ministry of Radio Industry of the USSR.
From 1981 to 1997 he worked in the research and production association “Planar”, part of the Ministry of Electronic Industry of the USSR, where he worked firstly as Lead Engineer and then as the Head of the Association. From 1997 to 2002 he worked as Deputy and First Deputy Minister of Industry of the Republic of Belarus. From 2002 to 2003 he worked as Chairman of the Science and Technology Committee under the aegis of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Belarus.
From 2003 to 2009 he held the position of Minister of Industry of the Republic of Belarus.
In December 2009, he was appointed Director of Heat and Mass Transfer Institute of Belarus, part of the National Academy of Sciences, and in December 2010 he was appointed as Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.
In 2012-2016 was a member of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus of the fifth convocation.
