“He taught at universities in Belarus, taught and did research at the Higher School of Economics (Berlin), the People”s University of China (Beijing), Moscow State University (Russia), the Economic Development Institute (Washington), St. Petersburg University (Russia) Kiev (Ukraine) and Tashkent (Uzbekistan) Universities. In 1991-1994 he served as head of the department and pro-rector of the National Institute for Humanities, dean of the Faculty of Economics of the European Humanities University in Minsk.
Since 1992 he managed World Bank projects on macroeconomic policy in Belarus. As an independent expert, in 1996-1999 he was a Member of the Economic Development Council of the Government of Belarus. In 2000-2002. – Member of the Expert Council of the Council of the Republic. In 1996-1997 Zaika headed National Center for Strategic Initiatives “East-West”.
In 2000 he was the scientific editor of the National Human Development Report of Belarus, head of the Scientific Advisory Board of the UNDP in Belarus for the preparation of national reports.
